MEDIA ADVISORY -- Gulf Coast VA to accept donated van to support its patient transportation network

November 9, 2018

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. – Through its Voluntary Services program, the Department of Veterans Affairs Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System will accept the donation of a brand new van from Disabled American Veterans Chapter 112 during an event Nov. 15.  Media is invited to cover this event.

This event will take place at 11 a.m. at the Golden Corral Buffet and Grill, located at 414A Mary Esther Cut Off NW.  The late Tom Simms, a DAV member who passed away in June, took donations for the van from patrons of this restaurant.  The proceeds were then used to purchase the van and donate it to GCVHCS to provide transportation to VA patients receiving VA health care services in GCVHCS facilities in the region.  GCVHCS volunteers serve as drivers.

GCVHCS Director Bryan C. Matthews will accept the donation from DAV Chapter 112 Commander Ramond “Andy” Cole, with support from Mark Shaw, owner of the Golden Corral.

If interested in covering this event, please contact Jerron Barnett, GCVHCS public affairs specialist, at jerron.barnett@va.gov or 850-501-3731.
